Highland Child Protection Committee Training Programme

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I know when and where the training is taking place?

Each year, the Highland Child Protection Committee (HCPC) produces a training calendar which you can find on this site. However, further events may be added throughout the year. Keep an eye out for these in the Conferences and Events section, or ask your designated child protection advisor for regular updates.

Courses will be held across Highland in a range of venues, please see the Training Calendar for further details. You will note that only a location is stated here, not a specific venue. Details of the venue will be sent out with your confirmation.

How long are the courses?

Unless otherwise stated, full day courses will run from 9.45am-4.30pm. Registration and coffee will be available from 9.15am. Please note, access to the training room may not be available until 9.30am.

How do I apply for Child Protection Courses?

Applications for all our courses should be made on the standard HCPC application form. Completed applications should be forwarded to your local Child Protection Advisor (NHS Highland only) or Agency Training Officer. If you are not sure where to send your completed forms, please see . Applications should not be returned direct to the Child Protection Committee Training Office. Please note, Education, Culture & Sport staff should continue to use the electronic CPD calendar and application process.

Is there a closing date for applications?

The closing date for applications is 4 weeks prior to the course taking place. Any applications received after this date will only be considered if the course is not full to capacity and waiting list applicants have been offered remaining spaces.

Is there a charge for the training?

No, child protection training is provided free of charge. However, please note our policy on charging for non-attendance. Lunch and refreshments are provided during training courses, however, you must inform us in advance if you have any dietary requirements. We are happy to accommodate dietary requests for medical or cultural purposes only. Please check with the Training Office in advance if you have any dietary requirements and we will do our best to accommodate you (please note, ‘I don’t like …’ is not a dietary request – sorry!).

How will I know if I have place?

You will be advised by your agency if you have not been successful in gaining a place. This may occur where maximum place allocation is exceeded, or particular staff have been prioritised to attend this training within your agency. They will inform you whether your name has been held on a waiting list, or if you have been placed on a future course. If you do not hear from your agency, you can assume your application has been successful and your place will be confirmed by us in writing at a later date. Please put the date(s) in your diary immediately on booking so that you know you’ll be free to attend on the requested date(s). Please note, Education, Culture & Sport staff will receive electronic confirmation of places as previously and this will be followed by written confirmation from us as below.

Will I receive written confirmation that I have a place?

You will receive written/email confirmation of your place, along with venue, start times and any pre-course reading. Confirmation will be sent out approximately four weeks prior to the course taking place by the CPC Training Office. If you do not receive this confirmation but think you have a place, please contact us on 01463 703483. Please do not turn up to the course if you do not have confirmation, you may not be able to attend due to numbers.

What if I have to cancel, will I be charged?

Courses are free of charge. However, places are limited; therefore if you are unable to attend a course for any reason we require written/email notification of cancellations or a charge may apply. Please email: Donna.Munro@highland.gov.uk or Lisa.Mcclymont@highland.gov.uk or phone 01463 703483 to cancel or amend your booking. Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to the course taking place whenever possible.

Staff should be aware that there is now a procedure in place for following up non-attendance at training events. Failure to attend without prior notice may result in notification to your agency and a possible £30 charge being made.
